    Thursday, April 14th, 2011

In the late 1980s and early ’90s, it was almost impossible to avoid hearing about the plight of “crack babies”? infants born to mothers who had used crack cocaine during pregnancy. These offspring were predicted to become a generation? Continue reading?

    • Is the baby boomer generation concerned about leaving an inheritance to their children? A recent article discusses that topic and interviews boomers who have considered the issue themselves. Alcohol caused this!

Here are just some of the alcohol-related violence and injuries that I’ve seen so far this year in the emergency room:

    * 24-year-old man with a ruptured spleen and broken back when he fell off a balcony * 15 year old girl who tossed three quarters bottle of vodka intubated – / ventilated and went to the intensive care * 24-year-old with severe facial injuries Lacs from ” glassing “injuries to face * Aspiration pneumonia from inhaling vomit – intensive care * broken legs / arms / knee’s / back’s / ankles / necks from alcohol related fights, car accidents, falls etc * women victims of domestic violence * many many head injuries, whiplash injuries, lacerations, faces / heads, hands and arms, knife wounds, fractured skulls, broken noses. . . * The list goes on. . .

So why does it, continue to happen every day of the week?

“There are ….!” these young people and their drinking habits

    – is not it, how bout the all too common 30 year old mother who drinks 1-2 bottles of wine on most days?

Tonight for example, I saw a 44-year-old man with pain abdomen (and alcohol issues), which was staggering and slurring, and then continued to wet his pants and screaming at the emergency staff – delightful.

How about the 62-year-old man vomiting red wine all over himself? Or a 16-year-old girl so drunk that jamming a thumb and index finger into her trapezius solves no answer.

I have cried so many times to “get this stupid thing from me, you &$^$%!!!” (Drunk person is missing the hard collar removed – perhaps the only thing her broken neck stable). Often drunk people can not control all the functions of the body, and think that their order pee, use their guts and vomit everywhere. . .

these are just extreme examples of people who can not handle their liquor? Hardly. . .

Are you someone who drank too much? Do you have relatives / friends or acquaintances problems with alcohol? When you have enough to drink? Making responsible drinking decisions, not only benefits you and your health, but also a good example for your friends, your partner, your children.

think it is too late to change your habits? Not so. Drinking alcohol in moderation is not the problem – it is excessive alcohol consumption and bad decisions, which leads to all kinds of disasters.

by the Alcohol and Drug Services Web site (www. Dassa. Sat gov. AU):

Intoxication is the most common cause of alcohol-related problems, which in injury-related deaths and premature. Alcohol is responsible for:

    * 30% of road accidents * 44% of fire injuries * 34% of falls and drowning * 16% of cases of child abuse * 12% of suicides * 10% of accidents at work

and deaths, the short-term effects of alcohol lead to illness and loss of productivity of labor (eg, hangover, drink driving offenses). In addition, alcohol contributes to criminal behavior – in Australia over 70% of prisoners convicted of violent assaults have drunk alcohol before committing the offense and more than 40% of cases of domestic violence under the influence of alcohol.
    From a health perspective

long-term excessive alcohol consumption is associated with:

    * heart damage * high blood pressure and stroke * * liver damage cancers of the digestive tract * other digestive disorders (eg stomach ulcers) * impotence and reduced fertility * increased risk of breast cancer * sleep disorders * brain damage with mood swings and personality changes * Concentration and memory problems < ; / p>

Besides health problems, alcohol can adversely affect your finances, work situations and relationships. Judgement is impaired, slow reactions, reduce inhibitions and decreases coordination.

    What do I do now?

Think of the effect of alcohol on one’s life. Need to make some adjustments? Need to talk and say something to your family or friends about their drinking problems? Not one of the statistics.
